This Kobo Libra Color review comes from someone who has been using eReaders for years—and that experience really matters here.

I’ve been using an older Kindle Paperwhite for a long time. It still works perfectly fine, but compared to newer devices, it definitely feels heavier and a bit dated.

GET THE BEST METHODS

How to get free coins on Webtoon: Legitimate ways to earn, save, and maximize

I’m also someone who reads both on eReaders, mobile phones, and physical books, so I’m very used to switching between formats and noticing the small differences in comfort.

That said, the biggest philosophical difference is this: Kindle is a closed system, while Kobo is more open. Transferring your own files is much easier here, even if you’re still using Kobo’s store for books and manga.

Kobo Libra Color review: Display and reading experience

Credit: Rakuten Kobo

The color display is the headline feature, but what stands out more is how comfortable it feels to read on.

It’s not the kind of color you’d expect from a tablet. Instead, everything looks softer and more muted, which actually works in its favor. The screen feels natural, almost like paper, and it’s incredibly easy on the eyes even during long reading sessions—a very relaxed reading experience that you settle into without thinking.

SEE ALSO: Can you download apps on Kobo Libra Color? Here’s what you need to know

It’s hard to describe precisely besides simply saying it feels “comfortable”—perhaps of a feeling of warmth, coziness, and ease combined.

Ease also extends to its battery life. Kobo claims up to around 40 days on a single charge with light use. In practice, it lasts anywhere from several days to a few weeks depending on usage. Either way, it’s not something you’ll find yourself constantly charging—it just quietly keeps up with your reading.

Credit: Amanz on Unsplash

A small detail I really appreciate is the Kobo Libra Color’s screensaver. It displays the cover of the book you’re currently reading, which makes the device feel a bit more personal and also lets you instantly remember where you left off.

Design and weight of the Kobo Libra Color

This is easily the best part of the Kobo Libra Color. At around 199 grams, it’s noticeably lighter than older Kindle Paperwhite models, which tend to sit above 200 grams depending on the version.

On paper that difference doesn’t sound huge, but in daily use, it really is.

YOU MUST READ THESE TITLES

The 5 best Boys Love manga on Kobo that deserve a spot in your library

The device feels light, balanced, and very easy to hold for long periods. It’s also compact enough that you can just throw it into your bag and (almost) forget it’s there. Reading in bed at night is a breeze—unlike holding a thick 500-page novel, which can feel like a workout before you even start reading. Honestly compared to my Kindle, which always makes its weight known, this feels almost weightless.

The overall ergonomics are just right. Everything from the grip to the physical feel makes it a device you actually want to pick up and use, and it’s no surprise that so many people seem to be switching to it.

My expereince using the Kobo Stylus 2

Credit: Amanda Tan/Fanstanza

The Kobo Stylus 2 adds another layer to the device, but whether it’s essential really depends on how you plan to use it.

In terms of design, it’s thin, light, and very easy to handle. Charging is simple via USB-C, and there’s no power button to worry about—it’s always ready as long as it has battery.

KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY

Manhwa vs manga: What’s the difference? A guide to history, art, and reading style

It also magnetically attaches to the side of the Kobo, which makes it convenient to carry around, although you’ll probably still want a pouch if you’re putting it in your bag in case something lobs it off.

Using it feels responsive, especially for general writing and navigation. It feels comfortable to write on, especially when using a slightly thicker pen setting, and it works well for jotting down notes, making lists, or annotating text.

Credit: Amanda Tan/Fanstanza

The built-in templates are also a nice touch, offering different formats like dots and lines depending on what you need.

For drawing, it works well for quick sketches and casual doodles—which is why it’s important to keep expectations realistic.

SEE ALSO: Discover manga the magazine way: 12 countries, 5 top publishers, endless titles

There are no layers, the color options are limited, and brush sizes are basic, so this isn’t a device for serious digital art. It’s much better suited for quick ideas or practice rather than anything detailed.

The eraser works, but it’s clearly more optimized for writing than drawing. When sketching, using the undo function is often more reliable than trying to erase precisely.

Credit: Amanda Tan/Fanstanza

However, there are a couple of frustrations. The stylus button sits right where your fingers naturally rest, which makes it easy to press accidentally. This can switch tools mid-writing, especially when you’re moving quickly.

On top of that, if you don’t disable touch gestures, your palm can sometimes trigger page turns while you’re writing, which breaks the flow.

So while the stylus is very convenient, it’s not flawless, particularly for fast or heavy note-taking.

System and ecosystem

This is where Kobo really stands out: transferring files from your computer is extremely straightforward, and this alone makes a huge difference compared to Kindle.

Credit: Amanda Tan/Fanstanza

EPUB files work without any hassle, and the entire process of loading and reading your own content feels seamless.

There’s also support for local library integration, which means you’re not locked into buying everything from the Kobo store.

That added flexibility makes the device much more versatile, especially if you already have your own collection of books or prefer sourcing content elsewhere.

The final verdict

Priced at S$339.90, the Kobo Libra Color sits in that slightly premium range for eReaders, especially once you factor in the Kobo Stylus 2 (S$99) as an additional cost.

That said, I do think it’s worth it for what you’re getting. The lightweight design, comfortable reading experience, color display, and open file support all add up to something that feels genuinely better to use day-to-day.

Credit: Rakuten Kobo

If you’re just looking for a basic reading device, there are cheaper options—but if you care about comfort, flexibility, and a more modern experience, this justifies the price.

The Kobo Libra Color, to me, is one of those devices that gets most things right in a way that actually matters.

KOBO LIBRA COLOR REVIEW

SCORE

Display and reading experience

9/10

Design and build

9/10

Performance and battery

8/10

Features and ecosystem

8/10

Value for money

8/10

Overall

8.4/10

The Kobo Stylus 2 is a useful addition, but it’s best seen as optional. It’s great for annotations, quick notes, and casual sketches, but not essential if your focus is purely on reading.

If you’re looking for a modern eReader that feels effortless to use and fits naturally into your daily routine, this is an easy recommendation.

The first major content drop of Year 2 is the Vredo Pack, which launched on March 24, 2026. This pack is a fantastic quality-of-life upgrade for field maintenance. It introduces highly specialized Vredo machinery that excels at efficient slurry (manure/fertilizer) application.

Improvements to field maintenance

The biggest gameplay addition is the ability to “overseed” your pastures. Previously, dealing with degraded grassland was a bit of a chore.

Now, you can use the new DZ5 seeder generation which includes the Vredo Agri Twin 580, Agri 290, and Agri Air 290 to rejuvenate your grass and restore its full yield potential without ever having to touch a plow!

Nutrient management gets a massive upgrade with a heavy focus on deep-soil injection. Instead of just spraying fertilizer, these new tools inject slurry directly into the soil so every drop of nutrition reaches the roots, boosting your crop quality.

The verdict on Vredo machinery

Credit: Giants Software

The absolute star of this lineup is the Vredo VT7138, a massive, high-capacity, slurry tanker. When you pair it with the Vredo Profi series injectors or the Evers Agro Toric 48-672, your fertilization game becomes incredibly efficient.

Vredo machinery offers a meaningful upgrade in performance, though its efficiency is tempered by high in-game costs compared to standard equipment.

As such, you will need to carefully budget your finances and ensure you have a highly profitable operation running before you can comfortably afford to add these powerhouse tools to your fleet.

Going wild

Farming just got a lot more unpredictable. For the first time, wild boars roam the map, and they aren’t just there for the scenery — they’re an active threat. These pesky invaders will cause real damage to your crops when they forage through your fields.

Credit: SEGA

You have to actively manage this risk by using the new feeding station to distract them and lure them away from your valuable harvests.

However, the interaction with the boars is pretty shallow, making them feel like a minor chore and gimmicky at best because you won’t be able to rear or cook them.

Farming Simulator 25 review

The Year 1 Season Pass set an incredibly high bar for the game’s post-launch lifespan. It completely transformed the sandbox by introducing the Highlands Fishing Expansion, which brought highly requested, lucrative aquaculture chains into the mix.

It also bolsters your fleet with new heavy-duty machines through the Mercedes-Benz Trucks Pack.

Paired with the base game’s deeply immersive East Asian rice paddies and dynamic weather systems, the experience is further elevated by an overhauled sound design—giving every tractor and harvester distinct, realistic engine notes alongside calming ambient nature sounds. The result is gameplay that feels incredibly authentic.

Credit: Giants Software

The new rice farming system is a standout base game addition, offering a specialized and rewarding cultivation loop. It requires building flooded fields, managing water pump levels, and raising saplings in a greenhouse before planting.

The methodical use of specialized machinery, such as Iseki rice planters and harvesters, introduces a distinctive layer to the gameplay, setting it apart entirely from conventional dry-crop agriculture from the previous games.

The simulation remains highly popular due to its exceptional depth, offering a deeply rewarding sandbox for virtual farmers to explore. Nevertheless, new players may still find the game’s notoriously steep learning curve quite daunting, and the Worker AI’s continued lack of refinement can make automating your massive fields feel more frustrating than it should.

Despite these lingering base-game flaws, the core mechanics provide an incredibly solid foundation that begs to be expanded upon. Picking up the Year 1 and Year 2 Season Passes is highly recommended, as they feel like much-needed add-ons rather than simple cash grabs.

Credit: SEGA

At first glance, a vehicle-heavy season pass might largely resemble acquiring more collectibles, like how a child loves receiving additional toy trucks to play with.

However, the Year 1 pass completely shattered that expectation by introducing game-changing production chains that’s just as massive as the industrial aquaculture systems of the Highlands Fishing Expansion and the heavy-duty logistical power of the Mercedes-Benz trucks. These fundamentally change how you operate and monetize your farm.

When you combine these massive Year 1 gameplay shifts with the new quality-of-life improvements and specialized machinery rolling out in Year 2, the passes transform the base game into a much richer experience.

Rather than just padding out your garage with shiny new models, these add-ons offer a ton of deeply integrated, dynamic content. Ultimately, investing in the season passes provides a massive wave of fresh gameplay that will easily keep dedicated players busy for hundreds of hours as they continue to expand their agricultural empires.

Jujutsu Kaisen has never been a series that holds back, constantly pushing its characters into situations where survival is never guaranteed.

That’s why the idea of a Jujutsu Kaisen sequel inevitably carries high expectations, especially after how definitive the original story felt.

ONE GOOD THING CAME FROM IT

How Yuji avoided Gojo’s biggest mistake in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

A sequel isn’t just about continuing the story — it needs a reason to exist.

After reading Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, it raises the uncomfortable question of whether this continuation meaningfully adds to the story—or simply exists for the sake of it.

What Is Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?

Credit: Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Yuji Iwasaki

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a sequel manga to Jujutsu Kaisen, written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yūji Iwasaki.

It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, beginning on September 8, 2025, and concluded on March 9, 2026, with a total of 25 chapters.

READ THE ORIGINAL: Where to read Jujutsu Kaisen manga online — all official sources

Set in the year 2086, the story takes place roughly 68 years after the events of the original series. Instead of continuing directly with the original cast, the sequel shifts its focus to a new generation—primarily the descendants of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin.

Credit: Shueisha, Gege Akutami

The story introduces a new global conflict through an extraterrestrial race known as the Simurians, whose understanding of cursed energy differs from that of humans.

This creates a large-scale clash that expands the scope of the series beyond Japan, blending supernatural elements with a more science-fiction-driven premise.

As multiple factions collide, the story builds toward a resolution that directly impacts the existence of cursed energy itself.

Did we need a Jujutsu Kaisen sequel?

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

In my opinion, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has a lot of interesting ideas, but very few of them are explored deeply enough to justify its existence as a sequel.

One of the most interesting ideas going into Modulo is how it handles legacy characters. The concept of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin ending up together and having descendants is compelling on paper because it opens the door for entirely new combinations of abilities and techniques.

When it came to narrative execution, however, it feels like the series leans too heavily on its proven formula by going back to “what worked”.

Yuka Okkotsu inheriting the Ten Shadows Technique, and Tsurugi Okkotsu being born with a Heavenly Restriction similar to Maki and Toji, are ideas we have already seen before.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

Instead of expanding the system of cursed techniques, the sequel recycles familiar concepts. While this does tap into nostalgia, it does not really push the possibilities forward.

In my opinion, it would have been better to give these abilities to side characters instead of the main cast, so the sequel could introduce new techniques rather than rely on familiar ones. For example, having these abilities show up through Yuka and Tsurugi’s parents, who may not have been exceptional sorcerers themselves, could have added more depth.

It keeps the original characters relevant without actually evolving the world they helped build, and that is where it starts to feel limiting.

It would highlight how rare and refined these abilities were in the hands of characters like Megumi, Maki, and Toji. By comparison, giving those same techniques directly to the new protagonists makes them feel less special, rather than reinforcing how unique they originally were.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami

That said, the premise of Modulo is one of its strongest aspects. Introducing the Simurians, an alien race with a fundamentally different understanding of cursed energy, immediately raises the stakes.

It expands the conflict beyond what the original series established and introduces a new kind of threat that is not bound by the same rules. Unlike curses, which are born from human negativity, the Simurians operate under their own system, forcing sorcerers to adapt to something unfamiliar.

Another layer to this conflict is their motivation. The Simurians are searching for a new home, which puts them in a position where they either take over Earth or attempt to coexist with humans. This ambiguity works well: it creates tension without making them outright villains, and adds unpredictability to how the conflict might unfold.

Characters like Dabura Karaba and the Val Vol Yelvori brothers, Cross and Maru, are interesting in their own right. Dabura, in particular, being positioned as a warrior comparable to Ryomen Sukuna, sets expectations for something major.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami

Disappointingly, the series never quite reaches that level.

Compared to the original Jujutsu Kaisen, where the motives and backstory of Kenjaku’s group of sorcerers and special grade curses are developed over time, these new characters do not receive the same depth. They are introduced quickly, given strong concepts, and that’s about it.

Dabura is a perfect example. The climax of the series was clearly building toward one question: how does this new generation deal with a Sukuna-level threat?

It was compelling to see Yuka summon Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga, one of the strongest entities in the series. Mahoraga has always been used as a last-resort trump card, and its ability to adapt to anything keeps the outcome unpredictable.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Kamukura

But that is also the problem. Mahoraga has always felt like an incomplete character. It does not speak, show emotion, or have any personal motivation.

Having it act as the main opponent against Dabura makes the fight feel less appealing. It works as an appetizer, but not the main course.

What’s even more confusing is that the story definitely felt like it was keen on serving up a main course at the climax that we were so looking forward to. With Yuji entering the fray, Modulo seemed to be setting up its version of a “strongest versus strongest” fight, similar to Gojo versus Sukuna.

Instead, that confrontation is never realized. All we got is buildup without a payoff.

Credit: Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Yuji Iwasaki

After Dabura reaches his realization and decides to fight on his own terms rather than as a weapon, he leaves Earth after recognizing that the conflict was never truly his to begin with.

He determines that it lies with the Deskunte on his home planet, Simuria. He then returns, takes control of the Deskunte as its new leader, and that is where his story ends.

Because of that, both his character arc and the larger conflict between the Simurians and the jujutsu sorcerers resolve in a way that feels completely unsatisfying.

An ending that was rushed

Credit: Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Yuji Iwasaki

Maru’s cursed technique is one of the most interesting abilities introduced in Modulo. It operates on two concepts:

Chaos, which allows him to manipulate physical laws like gravity and trajectory, and

Harmony, which enables him to align or connect individuals and groups.

In theory, it is one of the most versatile abilities ever seen in the series.

Yuji’s plan revolves around using this Harmony to create balance between humans, cursed spirits, and the Simurians, essentially ending the cycle that produces curses. It is a major shift in direction, moving away from extermination toward coexistence.

Unfortunately, the narrative execution of his plan completely falls short.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami

The explanation is heavily reliant on exposition, and even then, it is not entirely clear how far Maru’s ability can actually go.

It is stated that his technique cannot fully eliminate cursed energy, yet the solution presented leans heavily on that assumption. For something that fundamentally changes the entire world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the resolution feels too easy.

A big part of that comes down to how much time the series spends explaining rather than showing. From chapters 21 to 25, a large portion of the story is dedicated to explaining, reasoning, and ultimately accepting this decision.

Considering the series only runs for 25 chapters, that is a significant amount of time spent on exposition, especially for an ending that is supposed to carry the most impact.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

It also does not help that this decision comes from a conversation between two characters who barely know each other. Their encounter at the end was the first and only time Yuji and Maru met. The scale of the decision does not match the way it is delivered.

For me, that is where Modulo misses what made Jujutsu Kaisen work in the first place. The original series was at its best when it built anticipation and followed through on it.

The Culling Game and Shinjuku Showdown arcs are good examples of this, where each chapter pushed things forward in a way that made you want to see what happened next.

Modulo sets up that same sense of anticipation, but instead of delivering on it, it slows down at the finish line. By the time it reaches its conclusion, it feels less like a payoff and more like an explanation.

Credit: Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Yuji Iwasaki

One clear improvement in Modulo, however, is the art.

Yuji Iwasaki’s illustrations are noticeably more polished compared to the original series. The linework is cleaner, the action is easier to follow, and the overall presentation feels more refined.

Visually at least, the sequel does feel like an evolution, even if the storytelling does not always match that level of advancement.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a sequel that raises more questions than answers

Credit: Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Yuji Iwasaki

Ultimately, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo feels like a sequel that was not given enough time to fully justify itself.

It introduces big ideas, a new generation, a global conflict, and the potential end of cursed energy, but does not explore them deeply enough.

Instead of expanding the world in a meaningful way, it resolves its biggest conflicts too quickly, leaving behind more questions than answers.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

One of the biggest gaps is the absence of Megumi Fushiguro. For a character so central to the original story, not even being mentioned stands out in a way that is hard to ignore.

In the end, Modulo is not a bad sequel, but it feels incomplete. With more time, more chapters, and a slower pace, it could have been something much more impactful.

As it stands, it shows potential, but never fully delivers on it, coming to an unsatisfying end.

Turn wine into art.

In the Drops of God anime, a single glass of wine can feel almost divine.

Paired with sweeping classical opera music that lends an air of gravitas, every tasting becomes something more than indulgence—it becomes a search for meaning.

In this world, the path to divinity begins with a single sip. Our protagonist Kanzaki Shizuku, however, would vehemently disagree—at least at the start of the story where all this begins.

MUST-WATCH UNIQUE ANIME

The Impossible Anime: Adapting 4.5 million words for the small screen

The complete Trigun watch order: All series, movies, and reboots

The anime adapts Drops of God (Kami no Shizuku), a Japanese wine-themed manga written by Tadashi Agi—the joint pen name of siblings Shin Kibayashi and Yuko Kibayashi—and illustrated by Shu Okimoto. The manga has a total of 44 volumes across 439 chapters that ran until June 2014.

It was first published in Weekly Morning by Kondasha in 2004, the same year that Bartender came out in Super Jump by Shueisha.

The Drops of God anime: What to expect in the story

Credit: Apple TV

Despite debuting more than 20 years ago, Drops of God surprisingly never got its anime adaptation until now. Instead, it received several live-action adaptations over the years.

The first was a Japanese TV drama, Kami no Shizuku, which aired on Nippon TV from January to March 2009. Starring Kazuya Kamenashi as Shizuku Kanzaki, the series ran for nine episodes and brought the wine-focused story to a wider television audience.

ADD TO YOUR WATCHLIST

Hana Kimi anime review: Legendary shoujo title finally receives the animation it deserves

More than a decade later, the franchise received a new interpretation with the 2023 international series Drops of God, produced through a collaboration between Japan, France, and the United States and released globally on Apple TV+.

This version reimagined the narrative by introducing a French protagonist named Camille while keeping the central rivalry over the legendary wines at the heart of the story.

Credit: Apple TV

The original story centers on Shizuku Kanzaki, the estranged son of a renowned wine critic. After his father passes away, Shizuku discovers that the late critic’s vast wine collection will be inherited by whoever can correctly identify twelve legendary wines described through poetic clues, known as the “Twelve Apostles.”

His chief rival is Issei Tomine, a talented wine critic who had been adopted by Shizuku’s father shortly before his death.

Their rivalry eventually leads both men on a quest to uncover the legendary wine referred to as the “Drops of God.”

The manga became a worldwide phenomenon and even had a real-world impact on the wine industry, with bottles featured in the story often seeing spikes in demand after appearing in the series. The anime could very well inspire the same.

Get treated to swirling visuals and animation

I don’t usually watch food or drink-centered anime because if you’ve ever played Genshin Impact at 11pm (or Final Fanstay 15 for that matter), you would know how dangerously tempting supper becomes.

My first brush with any alcohol-induced anime came last year when I took a chance on the 2024 reboot of Bartender Glass of God—and loved it. While it still hasn’t convinced me to try the Singapore Sling despite being Singaporean, I became very interested in every other drink that Ryu made in the 12-episode series.

So when I got the chance to dip into the first episode of The Drops of God anime for this review, I took it because I’m still on the quest to find God in all the liquor I’ve been drinking.

Besides being hit with high octave opera in the first few frames, you’ll quickly notice that The Drops of God anime style, colors, and tones used are very 2000s, which stays true to the original manga.

Credit: Satelight

Produced by Satelight, this is the same studio behind Fairy Tale, Log Horizon, and boys love anime, Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!.

Known for their bold use of color and lighting, Satelight excels at dramatizing moments, creating cinematic, immersive worlds where CGI and 2D animation blend seamlessly in action-packed or highly stylized scenes.

This works perfectly for The Drops of God anime, where the first sip in wine tasting transforms into a defining moment of revelation, aroma, flavor, and emotion, unfolding like a symphony on the palate.

You must understand—it’s always challenging for anything olfactory or gustatory to be translated onto the screen, especially in animation. Prepare to be amazed by how creative director Kenji Itoso weaves Eishi Segawa’s music with fantastically colorful visuals—especially since both rivals spend much of each episode tasting wine.

A once in a lifetime voice actor cast

Credit: Satelight

Kanzaki Shizuku is actually not voiced by a seiyuu (Japanese voice actor by profession). Instead, we’re going full circle—the original Japanese actor who played him in the live-action series Kami no Shizuku, is back to lend his vocals.

Also a singer, model, host, and producer, it is Kazuya Kamenashi’s first-ever voice acting role in his illustrious 28-year long career in the entertainment industry.

More often seen playing lead roles in TV dramas (Shoutai, The Scales of Justice, I’m Your Destiny), he splits screentime with veteran seiyuu Takuya Satou (Zayne in Love and Deepspace, Albert James Moriarty in Moriarty the Patriot, Ayato Yuri in Yarichin Bitch Club), who voices Issei in The Drops of God anime.

On top of all this sexy talent, we have Maaya Uchida (Fischl in Genshin Impact, Hiyori Iki in Noragami, Christine in Lazarus) playing Miyabi Shinohara who eases Kanzaki into the world of wine that he’s completely unfamiliar with despite being the son of a world-renowned wine critic. She even sings the ending song, Kami no Shizuku!

As far as Spring 2026 anime goes, The Drops of God anime could’ve well flown under your radar. After all, we’ve got a couple of returning blockbuster titles like ReZero Starting Life in Another World Season 4, Dr Stone: Science Future Part 3, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4, and The Beginning After the End Season 2.

As if those aren’t enough, there’s also new hype anime like Witch Hat Atelier and Liar Game.

The Drops of God anime isn’t here to compete with any of these titles. If you want something different that may be out of your comfort zone where you learn many new things about wine, its real world production, and the vineyard business, this is definitely worth your while.

Drawing a parallel, I started Bartender Glass of God being totally uninterested in hard liquor. Colored by society’s often negative portrayal of drinking at bars, I was glad that Bartender had completely changed my mind by the end of the series.

THE GLASS OF GOD ANIME REVIEW

SCORE

Story: narrative and writing

8/10

Characters

7/10

Visuals and animation

8/10

Music and sound

7/10

Pacing and structure

8/10

Overall

7.6/10

I’m not a big fan of wine either—so I’m expecting The Drops of God anime to change my view as well. And while it may sometimes be difficult to imagine just how velvety and viscous one sip may be, at the very least, you can be sure that your ears will be treated to voice acting that’s smoother than fine wine.

And while it’s too early to say from just one episode, I would definitely want to see increasing levels of love-hate tension between Shizuku and Issei. After all, fujoshis are the best appreciators of well-pressed grapes.

Fluffy, wholesome, and peak romantic comedy. But does it live up to the hype?

In this spoiler-free Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review, we’ll dive into what you can expect from this Spring 2026 title.

Originally a manga series by Japanese mangaka Syundei, Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! built a dedicated following during its serialization in Opera magazine from 2014 to 2016, eventually receiving an English-language release by Seven Seas Entertainment in 2018.

The story is brought to the screen in 2026 by studio Drive, known for their work on titles like To Your Eternity and KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!.

As someone dipping their toes into the Boys’ Love genre for the first time, I’m breaking down the highs, the lows, and the overall vibe in this Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review to help you decide if it’s worth your time.

Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review: A fresh look at high school love

When I first saw the key visual for this series, I was immediately struck by the art style. I don’t often dive into series with a primary focus on same-sex leads, but as a fan of all things high school romance, I couldn’t pass up the chance to see how this story would unfold.

Credit: Drive inc.

The plot centers on the shy, awkward Okuto Nakamura, voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi (Stark in Frieren, Askeladd in Vinland Saga, Durin in Genshin Impact), and his intense crush on his classmate, Aiki Hirose, voiced by Yuki Sakakihara (Corpse God in Dead Mount Death Play, Juushi Aimono in Hypnosis Mic, Kirara Hoshi in Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game Part 1).

Despite never having spoken a word to him, Nakamura desperately—and often hilariously—tries to overcome his paralyzing shyness and close the distance between them.

ANOTHER SET OF FLIRTY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS

The most comprehensive Free anime watch order: All seasons, movies, OVAs

While the school setting is a familiar trope, the series is anything but dull, mostly thanks to the hilarious ways Nakamura dreams of initiating contact.

The production quality stands out in Go For It Nakamura-kun!! episode 1. The aesthetic is gorgeous and vibrant, perfectly capturing the bright, hopeful atmosphere of a budding high school romance.

Credit: Drive inc.

What impressed me most was the attention to detail in character animation. The show captures Nakamura’s micro-expressions brilliantly, especially his frequent retreat into his own head where he imagines scenarios involving Hirose.

Seeing Nakamura as this introverted lover boy lost in his own world makes his character incredibly endearing. Without going into spoilers, let’s just say their first real attempt at breaking the ice in Go For It Nakamura-kun!! episode 1 is both awkward and surprisingly sweet. It’s a strong start that grounds its comedy in very human, relatable emotions.

BECAUSE YOU’RE ALSO AN OTOME LOVER

Meet the Bewitched by You, Drowning in You cast that’s making otome fans very thirsty

Go For It Nakamura-kun!!’s appeal transcends genre boundaries. I haven’t watched much within the BL space, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but the series handles its romance with so much relatability.

Rather than leaning into heavy tropes or complex drama, the show highlights the jittery, universal awkwardness of a schoolboy crush.

Credit: Drive inc.

By framing the narrative around Nakamura’s internal struggle to approach his classmate, the story focuses more on the relatable anxiety of wanting to connect with someone you admire.

It treats the pursuit of love with such sincerity and lightheartedness that it feels accessible to anyone who has ever felt too shy to speak to their crush, regardless of their own orientation or familiarity with the genre.

Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review

A love letter to the 80s and 90s aesthetic

The production team has clearly leaned into a retro aesthetic that feels incredibly charming. The animation style is visually distinct, showcasing a color palette and grading that feel reminiscent of classic anime titles from the 80s and 90s.

This carries over beautifully into the opening sequence, which utilizes fun, bold geometric patterns and shapes that catch the eye and set a playful tone right from the start.

Soundscapes and synth-heavy nostalgia

The nostalgia factor is bolstered by the music choices as well. It features iconic songs Glory Days by Senri Oe from the 80s and Sekaide Ichiban Atsui Natsu by Princess Princess from the 90s for both the opening and ending themes.

Credit: Drive inc.

Particularly, the ending song Sekaide Ichiban Atsui Natsu is very synth-heavy, leaning into that vintage, atmospheric sound that wraps up each episode with a perfect sense of longing and retro warmth. The use of the song makes the series feel like a hidden gem from a different era.

The sound design is equally meticulous. The team put a lot of work into the audio, as the soundtrack shifts dynamically to match the protagonist’s emotional state, underscoring his more humorous internal monologues and awkward encounters with perfect comedic timing.

Performance and pacing

The voice acting is another standout. Chiaki Kobayashi as Nakamura is incredibly effective at delivering his lines with just the right amount of hesitation. He captures the character’s social anxiety so well that you, as a viewer, might even feel a bit of second-hand embarrassment during awkward situations.

Credit: Drive inc.

As for the pacing, Go For It Nakamura-kun!! episode 1 gets straight to the point within the first few minutes, establishing the premise immediately. However, as the story settles into its slice-of-life rhythm, the tempo slows down significantly.

While this makes it a very easy, low-pressure watch, I personally found the progression a bit too relaxed at times. If you’re a fan of fast-moving plots, the slower beats in this episode might feel a little drawn out.

Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review score

As we’ve explored in this Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review, the series is a solid choice for anyone looking for a visually charming, easy-going experience that leans into the relatable awkwardness of a first crush.

More than anything, this show is recommended for those who appreciate detailed character work and want to see a socially anxious internal monologue brought to life with such sincerity.

While it may be a bit of a slow burn for some, this Go For It Nakamura-kun!! anime review finds that it remains a sweet, sincere look at the hurdles of young love. If you are looking for a visually unique series to add to your seasonal watchlist, this is a charming place to start.

My Hero Academia officially ended on December 13, 2025. After nearly a decade of characters, world-building, and themes centered on heroism, letting go hasn’t been easy.

For those still drawn to that familiar feeling, the closest thing to filling the void is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 2, which began its run on January 5, 2026 on Crunchyroll.

KNOW YOUR FANDOM

The complete My Hero Academia watch order: All seasons, movies, OVAs

A prequel to My Hero Academia, Vigilantes offers a different perspective on the same world — one that exists outside the spotlight of Pro Heroes.

The question isn’t whether it replaces My Hero Academia, but whether Season 2 is worth watching now, and if it offers enough to justify your time after Season 1. In this spoiler free review, we go over the story, characters, animation, and overall viewing experience to help you decide if it’s worth diving back into the world of Vigilantes.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 2 story: What to expect

Credit: Bones Film

If you’re new to the Vigilantes anime, I’ll give you a quick rundown. It is adapted from spin-off manga, My Hero Academia Illegals, by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court.

Illegals began serialization on August 20, 2016, in Shueisha’s Jump GIGA magazine before moving later that year to Shueisha’s online platform Shonen Jump Plus. The series ran until May 28, 2022, and its chapters were collected into 15 tankobon volumes.

ENJOY MORE DUBIOUS HEROES

Is Sentenced to Be a Hero worth watching?
The anime adaptation, My Hero Academia Vigilantes, is produced by Bones Film, a branch of Studio Bones, famous for Fullmetal Alchemist, Mob Psycho 100, Noragami, Ouran High School Host Club, and of course, My Hero Academia, so they definitely know what they’re doing.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 1 debuted on April 7, 2025, and concluded on June 30, 2025, airing weekly with 13 episodes on Crunchyroll.

Discover more about protagonist Koichi Haimawari

Credit: Bones Film

The “Deku of this prequel” is Koichi Haimawari (Shuichiro Umeda). Unlike Deku, he was born with a Quirk. Also unlike Deku, his Quirk is not meant for attacking, but rather, mobility.

So what do they have in common? They both love and adore All Might and their only dream is to use their abilities to help others. This ethos is all too familiar.

Spoiler warning: Scenes and revelations in My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 1 are discussed below.

We learn in My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 1 that Koichi ended up being a vigilante after he was late for his licensed hero test because he jumped into a river to save a young child who had fallen in.

It was revealed to the audience that this child is none other than Kazuho Haneyama aka Pop☆Step (Ikumi Hasegawa), whom he coincidentally meets and teams up with at the start of Season 1, under the guidance of vigilante, Knuckleduster.

Credit: Bones Film

We also learn that Kazuho has a crush on Koichi, adding a fun layer of tension to the story. This subplot continues in Season 2, promising more blushing, awkward interruptions during her near-confessions, and a completely oblivious Koichi.

Main plot wise, we saw a shadowy man with a scar recovers the last surviving Bee containing Trigger’s data at the end of Season 1, hinting at the emergence of a new major villain in Season 2. Who is really pulling the strings behind these events still remains a mystery.

SEE ALSO: How many seasons of One Punch Man are there?

Until that is solved, we can expect our protagonists to deal with the consequences of Trigger’s influence on the city — but without their trusted mentor. Knuckleduster had hung up his weapon at the end of Season 1, signaling that he’s out, at least for now. After all, he deserves to spend time with his daughter, Tamao Oguro, whom he fought tooth and nail to get back.

To fill that void, we’re getting more airtime with our beloved UA High School teachers during their younger days, which, to be honest, is the only reason why I’m still watching My Hero Academia Vigilantes. Characters like the sexy Eraserhead (Junichi Suwabe) and the larger-than-life Fat Gum (Kazuyuki Okitsu) get moments that add depth to their personalities, reinforcing their undying appeal that we so enjoyed in My Hero Academia.

Credit: Bones Film

These glimpses into their pasts not only give fans a fresh perspective but also remind us why these heroes are so memorable in the main series, making the spin-off worth following even for side stories.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes’ animation, voice acting, and visuals are top tier

Despite its lighter tone, My Hero Academia Vigilantes has consistently delivered high-quality animation, keeping fans engaged with smooth action sequences and expressive character work… unlike the other hero-themed anime that ended its third season in December 2025.

The series is directed by Kenichi Suzuki, known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, where his skill in choreographing dynamic action and dramatic moments helped bring complex stories to life.

Yosuke Kuroda, a veteran screenwriter recognized for titles like My Hero Academia (the main series), Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Excel Saga, he’s able to balance character development with fast-paced storytelling.

Credit: Bones Film

This ensures that Vigilantes maintains both excitement and emotional depth, even while exploring side stories and supporting characters outside the main hero spotlight.

My Hero Academia’s stellar cast returns and I have a new favorite

The biggest thing that changed for me in My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 2 is the keen awareness of Shuichiro Umeda, who voices Koichi. You probably know him as Akira Tendo in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Saybil in The Dawn of the Witch, and Yuuki Izumi in Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie.

But I know him best as Hikaru Indo in the critically-acclaimed The Summer Hikaru Died, which ran after Vigilantes Season 1. The first volume of the manga sold 200,000 copies in just three months and earned praise for its compelling story, detailed artwork, and memorable characters.

It’s no surprise that the anime adaptation became a hit as well, featuring a cast that brings the characters to life with authentic performances delivered in the non-native Mie dialect.

Credit: Bones Film

Since winning the Best New Actor Award at the 17th Seiyu Awards in 2023, Umeda has only continued to improve. While Koichi doesn’t have the emotional depth of Hikaru, it’s a joy to hear him tackle two very contrasting roles, showcasing his talent and versatility.

Be honest with your motives for watching My Hero Academia Vigilantes

For this review, I watched the first two episodes of My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 2 and it was genuinely fun, maybe even more fun than how it opened in Season 1. After the first episode I immediately went to the next without taking a break.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 2 doesn’t aim to be life-changing. If you’re not looking for heavy emotional drama, intricate plots that require decoding by the entire fan community, or dark storylines, just sit back and enjoy it — take it at face value, like Koichi would.

It’s a relaxed, approachable anime. I personally prefer to watch it when I’m eating a meal. The tone is light, fun, and easy to follow, making it perfect for fans who want something low-stress after the intensity of the main MHA series.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 2 review

VIGILANTES SEASON 2 REVIEW

SCORE

Story: narrative and writing

7/10

Characters

7/10

Visuals and animation

8/10

Music and sound

8/10

Pacing and structure

7/10

Overall

7.4/10

Season 2 — hopefully — gives more opportunity to explore backstories of heroes who didn’t get enough time in the spotlight of the main anime. These stories give familiar characters more depth and make the world feel fuller, even if the overall stakes aren’t as high.

Watch My Hero Academia Vigilantes Season 2 on Crunchyroll starting from January 5, 2026 with weekly episode releases.

It has been over 20 years since the conclusion of the late Hisaya Nakajo’s manga series, and this Hana Kimi anime review explores the long-awaited adaptation of the classic shoujo title.

This is the very first time an anime version is being released despite the many successful live-action adaptations that debuted throughout East Asia in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

GO DEEPER INTO THE FANDOM

Who voices your favorite characters in Hana Kimi?
The original comedy-romance manga by Hisaya began its run in 1996 within the pages of the semi-monthly shoujo magazine Hana to Yume. Published by Hakusensha, the series continued until 2004 and reached a total of 23 volumes. It remains one of the best-selling shoujo manga series of all time, with over 17 million copies sold in Japan alone.

The 2007 Japanese drama, starring Maki Horikita, Shun Oguri, and Toma Ikuta, was a massive success. It won several major awards at the 54th Television Drama Academy Awards, including Best Drama, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor. The 2006 Taiwanese version also received international attention and earned a nomination for Best Juvenile Drama at the 2007 Seoul International Drama Awards.

The Hana Kimi anime adaptation was picked up by the studio Signal.MD. This is the same animation house that has worked on notable titles in the past, including Net-juu no Susume, Platinum End, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, and Fate/Grand Order: Divine Realm of the Round Table – Camelot Wandering; Agateram.

In this spoiler-free Hana Kimi anime review, we’ll take a look at the anime adaptation and see if it lives up to the reputation of the beloved story.

Hana Kimi anime review: A more faithful adaptation of the best-selling shoujo manga

Credit: Signal.MD

For context, I am a big fan of the original television adaptation of Hana Kimi that aired in 2007. It was my guilty pleasure after school, and I watched it from start to finish when a television network picked it up to be broadcast locally on national television. You could say I grew up with the drama series, and it was my introduction to the world of Japanese dramas.

If you are an original live-action viewer like me, you might find a change of pace in this version. The Hana Kimi anime is a modern adaptation of the classic by Hisaya Nakajo, and it brings a fresh look to the familiar story.

YOU’LL LOVE THESE TITLES TOO

You and I are Polar Opposites review: The ultimate green-flag dark horse anime

For the 90s kid who loved Boys Over Flowers, a new romance anime is releasing just for you

Hana Kimi is short for Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, or For You in Full Blossom. It is a shoujo romantic comedy centered on Mizuki Ashiya, played by Aya Yamane (young Nico Robin in One Piece, Daitaku Helios in Uma Musume, Misao Makimachi in Rurouni Kenshin), a Japanese American girl who enrolls in an all-boys boarding school disguised as a male student.

Her goal is to encourage her idol, a high jumper named Izumi Sano, played by Taku Yashiro (Gugu in To Your Eternity, Kouichi Shindou in Horimiya, Sanosuke in Rurouni Kenshin), to return to his sport after he decided to quit. By sheer coincidence, Mizuki is assigned as Sano’s roommate, which forces her to constantly hide her gender while living in close quarters with her hero.

The Hana Kimi episode 1 jumps right into the main plot, focusing on our protagonist as she goes through some major life changes.

Even though this is an anime, which is a medium that usually allows for exaggerated performances, the show seems to be missing a sense of camp that made the original Japanese live-action version so iconic. It feels more grounded, which might be a surprise for long-time fans who were expecting that over-the-top energy.

SEE ALSO: How to watch Uma Musume in order: From TV series to OVAs to web shorts

Mizuki and Shuuichi Nakatsu, played by Kikunosuke Toya (Denji in Chainsaw Man, Chouji Tomiyama in Windbreaker, Fubuki in The Elusive Samurai), are my favorite duo, and they still get into hilarious and awkward situations related to her secret identity. Their conversations about gender and their interactions are a highlight in Hana Kimi episode 1.

The Hana Kimi anime adaptation captures the heart of the story, but it does not quite reach the same level of comedy seen in the past. It feels like a more straightforward take on the manga, which changes the overall vibe and pacing of the story.

Hana Kimi anime review: Kikunosuke Toya is a standout star as Nakatsu

Credit: Signal.MD

Despite my reservations in pacing and portrayal, I do feel that the animation by Signal.MD makes each character shine, showcasing individual unique charms of the cast while sticking to a simple and clean style.

Kikunosuke does a stellar job of bringing the upbeat personality of Nakatsu to life. He sports an Osaka dialect as well, which remains faithful to the source material.

SEE ALSO: Oshi no Ko watch order: Best way to watch the anime and live-action

The music is another high point for this production. The famous duo Yoasobi performs both the opening and ending songs for the series. Both tracks are upbeat, and they really help set a tone that is light and fun and romantic. Having such music involved adds to the modern feel of the adaptation and matches the energy of the school setting perfectly.

Hana Kimi episode 1 is off to a great start with a more faithful adaptation of the celebrated work by Hisaya Nakajo. By returning to the roots of the manga while showcasing a modern school setting, this adaptation offers something fresh for both old and new fans. It honors the legacy of the original story while finally giving this classic shoujo title the animated spotlight it deserves.

HoYoverse fans are going to love it.

I spent the last hour thinking how to open this Sentenced to Be a Hero review outside of the typical “wow, where do I start?”…and came up with nothing, so I should definitely be punished for this sentence.

Besides loving the irony in the title, I was also attracted to it because of its explicit exploration of the concept of “hero.” Most of us are familiar with traditional themes that Marvel and DC have been putting out for the past two decades, but I’ve far more appreciated titles that sit deep within the grey: Heroes, The Boys, Gen V, and most recently, Chinese anime To Be Hero X, which you can also find exclusively on Crunchyroll.

SEE ALSO: Sentenced to Be a Hero voice actors: Characters and roles explained

Anti-hero? Basic. Give me superheroes that kill other superheroes, heroes that kill non-supers (and somehow receive praise for it), heroes who make heroism their entire identity but eventually find out how much they’ve been manipulated by the most powerful organizations in society and in the end, can’t distinguish between what’s right or wrong anymore. The best hero stories are those that make you question their actions at every single turn.

Credit: Studio Kai

From the title alone, Sentenced to Be a Hero appears to fall into the grey. Its premise is exactly what you expect it to be — in this fantasy world, the ultimate punishment for criminals isn’t to die, but rather, to be reborn as a hero who is branded and condemned by society. Read this spoiler-free review before you decide whether this anime is worth your confinement time.

Sentenced to Be a Hero anime: What to expect in the story

Originally a web novel published on Kakuyomu in 2020, Sentenced to Be a Hero is written by Rocket Shokai. It was then published as a light novel under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki no Shin Bungei in 2021.

A manga adaptation launched serialization in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Comic Regulus web magazine in March 2022 before receiving this anime adaptation that debuts on January 3, 2026. Both the novel and manga are still ongoing.

The story follows Xylo Forbartz (Yohei Azakami), a condemned goddess killer, who battles endless hordes of monstrous abominations as part of Penal Hero Unit 9004. There is no escape from death, only a cycle of resurrection and relentless combat.

But when Xylo encounters a mysterious new goddess, their unlikely alliance sparks a rebellion that could shatter the chains of eternal punishment.

What makes Sentenced to Be a Hero compelling is how it interrogates the cost of redemption in a system that commodifies strength. Rather than focusing solely on spectacle or action, the series leans into the psychological weight of obligation, control, and identity.

GO BEYOND THE SURFACE

The Impossible Anime: Adapting 4.5 million words for the small screen

What is the Culling Game?
It asks whether someone forced into heroism can truly become one, or whether the sentence itself is just another form of confinement dressed up as justice.

Sentenced to Be a Hero review

Visuals, animation, and music shine in a darkened world

Why do fantasy anime and movies always open with a scene of a book written in a foreign script? Stereotypical starters aside, you’ll forget this opening as fast as the five seconds it was shown.

Credit: Studio Kai

The series drops viewers straight into the action, introducing the recognizable, pink-haired Dotta Luzulas (Shun Horie) as he is being by mobs we do not yet understand.

You hear fast moving, high-pitched strings leading the orchestra to climax during Dotta’s near-death encounter that’s swiftly reduced to just vocals and drums when he is saved by protagonist Xylo Forbartz, reminiscent of the high fantasy soundtracks like Lord of the Rings and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

Usually, such arrangements are reserved for big battle scenes where we witness large armies clash in a narrative-altering fight when an arc peaks many more episodes into the season. I did not expect to be treated to such dramaticism during an isolated incident involving two characters just three minutes in!

Composed by Shunsuke Takizawa, best known for his work in multimedia franchise The iDOLM@STER, the Sentenced to Be a Hero anime is the first dark fantasy title in his repertoire. By all accounts, it feels like he intended to open the series with a bang to announce his entry into mainstream anime.

This musical dramaticism is paired perfectly with the incredibly detailed animations that use surprising yet very deliberate camera angles each time our “hero” Xylo makes a move. If you appreciate Jin Woo’s choreography in Solo Leveling season two and the jaw-dropping number of frames per second, you’ll definitely like how action is delivered in the Sentenced to Be a Hero anime.

Surprisingly, it is also animation studio Studio Kai’s first entry into dark fantasy. Best known for the now famous Uma Musume Pretty Derby anime, they’ve mostly produced shoujo titles alongside an entire 39-episode season of football anime, Captain Tsubasa: Junior Youth Arc.

Directed by Hiroyuki Takashima, who is responsible for key animations in single episodes in MAPPA’s Chainsaw Man, Banana Fish, and One Punch Man season 1, and many more from Akame ga Kill! and Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu, his experience certainly shines from episode one of Sentenced to Be a Hero. It’s as if all the players involved are here to prove they can do justice to this genre and this morally complex narrative despite their resume.

I must warn you though: the visual palette of Sentenced to Be a Hero is entirely befitting of its story and themes, leaning heavily on muted colors. As a consequence, the immersion might leave you feeling a bit heavy at times, as if you’re the one being sentenced and limited in this dreary world.

Credit: Studio Kai

On the flip side, when there is high contrast, you’ll notice it right away, and eventually come to understand how colors play a large part in conveying irony in questionable situations.

And so for such a unique and vast universe that Rocket Shokai has created, there’s only so much backstory you’ll receive in episode one even though it’s already twice as long. Many worldly concepts are mentioned but not fully explained, which can leave you feeling unsettled.

SEE ALSO: Why Inosuke’s survival was never guaranteed in Demon Slayer

We understand factions, alliances, and through visuals, directing, and music, we will very quickly find ourselves on Xylo’s side. But to fully appreciate the depth of the story, you’ll need a bit of patience and willingness to watch on.

To top off the hype in what may become one of the biggest titles this Winter season, the opening song is by none other than one of our favorite anisong bands, Spy Air! Titled “Kill the Noise,” it is musically very much a trademark Spy Air tune. Whether it’ll be as big of a hit as Imagination and Orange though, I have my reservations.

S-tier voice actors are key for complicated roles

Credit: Studio Kai

Every time I write about voice actors I must first qualify that I’m a huge fan so that you understand the depth of my bias, and hopefully, be willing to dive in with me.

I’ve spent many hours listening to Yohei Azakami lately. Starting from his first major breakout role as Ron Kamonohashi in Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions in 2023, Aoi Todo in Oblivion Battery in 2024, and now Mydei in Honkai Star Rail in 2025, his career is finally starting to soar.

SEE ALSO: The complete ReZero watch order: All seasons, OVAs

Playing Mydei in HoYoverse’s turn-based RPG is a big honor. The high-earning global hit is played and beloved by millions around the world. One of the two male leads alongside Phainon, he carries Amphoreus’ dense arc with hours and hours of dialogue, yearning, and brooding.

Credit: HoYoverse

Like Mydei, Xylo is explosive — literally and metaphorically — when he gets all riled up. They’re both prisoners trapped in their lives, but Xylo expresses more angst. He’s also forced to make on the fly decisions, which you feel in between silent pauses and Azakami’s measured tone.

You will feel Xylo’s extent of unwillingness weighed against his conviction — even as a convict — in every situation through Azakami’s voice control that suits the role’s gravitas.

SEE ALSO: The Fire Force code: Yusuke Kobayashi reveals the cast’s secret catchphrase

Azakami wasn’t originally cast as Xylo. In a 2021 PV that promotes the light novel, it is Yuichi Nakamura (Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen, Hawks in My Hero Academia) who voices Xylo. But showing what he can do as Mydei, I’m not at all surprised that it is Azakami who takes center stage in the Sentenced to Be a Hero anime. After learning about Xylo, I’m sure you’ll agree the casting director made the perfect choice.

Credit: Studio Kai

The male-domianted Sentenced to Be a Hero are full of other HoYoverse heavyweights, much to the delight of fans. Dotta is voiced by Shun Horie, who plays Aether, the male lead in Genshin Impact. Tatsuya is played by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Xiao, Genshin Impact), Venetim Leopool by Shunichi Toki (Freminet, Genshin Impact), Jayce Partiract by Shoya Chiba (Sethos, Genshin Impact) and of course, Yuichi Nakamura (Flins, Genshin Impact), who returns as Rhyno.

While I am rejoicing about having many male characters to savor, I don’t like the fact that we needed a token “cute anime girl” in Teoritta, who, surprise, surprise, contrasts with the protagonist in every way imaginable. A typical, repeated trope that’s overused in anime, I didn’t like her the moment she was introduced.

I’ve only watched the first two episodes, so honestly I’m not sure how much I can put up with her and what she represents. We’ll have to see. For a certain demographic of male viewers, I can only assume that her presence makes the anime much more palatable.

If you’re expecting another cookie-cutter romantic comedy anime, think again, for Seihantai na Kimi to Boku is the undisputed dark horse of the Winter 2026 season.

In this spoiler-free You and I Are Polar Opposites review, we’re diving into exactly why it deserves your time and undivided attention.

The series is written and illustrated by Kocha Agasawa, who first introduced the story as a one-shot manga on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in January 2021. After a positive reception from readers, it was greenlit for a full serialization in May 2022.

DIVE DEEPER

You and I Are Polar Opposites English cast: Characters and roles explained

The story is brought to life by Studio Lapin Track, known for their work on the Shoshimin series and the Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku OVA.

This 2026, the most honest, endearing, and goofy young love is finally coming to our screens. In this You and I Are Polar Opposites review, we’ll explain why this anime is a must-watch.

You and I Are Polar Opposites review: A breath of fresh air in a packed season

Credit: Lapin Track

I’ll be honest. I went into the You and I Are Polar Opposites anime knowing absolutely nothing. I expected a fun, colorful show, but little else. In a Winter 2026 lineup dominated by massive, returning franchises like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren Beyond Journey’s End, and Oshi no Ko, this series felt like a minor blip on the radar.

To my surprise, I found everything I’ve ever wanted in a romantic comedy.

While I’ve always had a soft spot for Japanese high school romances, I was initially concerned this would be “just another one of those.” But the series proves that simplicity is its greatest strength.

FALL IN LOVE WITH THESE TITLES

Hana Kimi anime guide: Characters, episodes, voice actors

Bunny Girl watch order: Best way to watch all seasons and movies

The title explains the core premise perfectly: the story follows two high school students who exist on completely different social wavelengths. Miyu Suzuki, played by Sayumi Suzushiro (Nijika Ijichi in Bocchi the Rock!, Kei Shirogane in Kaguya-sama, Akira Oono in High Score Girl) is the bubbly and trendy girl who is always talkative and conscious of her image. In contrast, her classmate and crush, Yuusuke Tani, played by Shougo Sakata (Johnny Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Aki Hayakawa in Chainsaw Man, Sensei in Blue Archive the Animation) is a quiet and straightforward boy who prefers to stay in the background.

In what could be considered the fastest confession in anime history, Suzuki is honest with her feelings for Tani right away. From there, the two begin a tale of friendship and love that avoids the typical “will they or won’t they” dragging found in most anime.

Credit: Lapin Track

The plot remains simple at its core, but the creative team brings the material to a whole new level. The way Kocha Agasawa writes these characters makes them feel incredibly grounded, while the stellar animation from Studio Lapin Track provides a unique energy to every scene. The series becomes a standout experience that feels both modern and nostalgic at the same time.

The You and I Are Polar Opposites anime masterfully showcases the complexities of young high school love and provides a genuine look at the inner workings of an introvert-extrovert relationship.

CHOOSE YOUR NEXT WATCH

Hana Kimi anime review: Legendary shoujo title finally receives the animation it deserves

Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 review: Why the Culling Game totally surpasses the Shibuya Incident

One partner yaps while the other simply listens, showing a dynamic that feels like a new meta in modern relationships. It is incredibly adorable and refreshing to see this play out in an anime format. The story is highly relatable and honest, and it is never afraid to take its sweet time, whether that is through Suzuki’s energetic ramblings or Tani’s thoughtful silences.

Credit: Lapin Track

One of the most striking aspects of the You and I Are Polar Opposites anime is its pacing. You can forget about love stories that take entire seasons just to reach a starting point. This couple refuses to beat around the bush and is never afraid to say what they truly feel. This directness removes the frustration often found in the genre and replaces it with a narrative that values communication over cliffhangers.

While the show is undeniably goofy most of the time, the serious moments reveal just how emotionally mature these characters actually are. It provides the healthiest display of a relationship I have seen in an anime in a long time.

The lack of toxic tropes and forced misunderstandings is exactly what makes the viewing experience so enjoyable. It is a rare treat to watch a series that trusts its characters to grow together rather than tearing them apart for drama.

Sayumi Suzushiro delivers an incredible performance as Suzuki. She perfectly captures the character’s high-energy exterior, but what is truly impressive is how her tone and mannerisms instantly shift during Suzuki’s inner monologues. If you are looking for an accurate and relatable depiction of the chaotic thoughts racing through a young girl’s mind when she is around her crush, Sayumi conveys every nuance flawlessly.

The accompanying music, produced by the talented Japanese DJ Tofubeats, is the perfect touch. The soundtrack is modern and rhythmic, matching the upbeat mood of the series. The music works in tandem with the animation to enhance the goofy and lighthearted energy of the show.

The animation by Studio Lapin Track is truly exceptional and plays a vital role in bringing the story to life. In the You and I Are Polar Opposites anime, the colors pop beautifully, especially when it involves Suzuki, and the production team clearly put immense effort into the details of her bold lifestyle.

From her intricate accessories to the personalized clutter of her bedroom, the environment feels authentic. There is never a dull moment in the You and I Are Polar Opposites anime’s visual presentation. Even in the first episode alone, the show utilizes a variety of art styles and exaggerated expressions for Suzuki that convey her internal rollercoaster of emotions.

What is most impressive are the romantic scenes where the art style undergoes a complete transformation. In these moments, the visuals shift into a soft, painting-like texture that feels ethereal and distinct from the rest of the episode. This stylistic choice makes the atmosphere feel dreamy and helps the viewer connect more deeply with the wholesome bond between the two leads.

Jujutsu Kaisen has always thrived on escalation, but Season 3 wastes no time reminding viewers that the series is done playing it safe. Produced by MAPPA and continuing the story created by Gege Akutami, the season marks the long-awaited start of the Culling Game arc, with its first episode set to air on January 8, 2026 on Crunchyroll.

In this Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 review, I look at the opening moments of the Culling Game to give you a sense of what to expect. These moments have made it clear that the story has entered its most dangerous phase yet—one where survival is no longer guaranteed by strength alone. The rules are harsher, the margins thinner, and the consequences far more permanent.

ENTER DEEPER FANDOM TERRITORY

Who dies in Jujutsu Kaisen season 1? Every death explained

Who dies in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2? And which characters might still be alive

As someone who has followed the manga from start to finish, seeing these events finally animated carries a particular weight. The series has moved beyond shock value or raw spectacle; it now leans fully into calculated chaos, driven by clashing ideologies, long-running schemes, and characters forced to act without a safety net.

If Season 2’s Shibuya Incident was the breaking point, Season 3 feels like the aftermath—messier, colder, and far more deliberate.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 premiere resets the board, but the rules are still unclear

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

JJK Season 3’s premiere clearly tries to answer the questions left at the end of season 2. The first two episodes focus almost entirely on resolving the immediate fallout of the Shibuya Incident, specifically through the Yuji Itadori Execution arc. Right away, we’re shown that Yuta Okkotsu is tasked with appeasing the Jujutsu higher-ups by killing Yuji Itadori.

SEE ALSO: Jujutsu Kaisen 2025 movie: Yuji’s backstory, Master Tengen, and the Culling Game explained

By the end of these episodes, the playing field is relatively clear, at least on paper. Satoru Gojo remains sealed; Yuki Tsukumo openly disagrees with the Jujutsu higher-ups; the higher-ups themselves believe Suguru Geto is behind the current crisis and are acting against him; and Yuta is the only one who formally accepts their request. Those are the four special-grade sorcerers currently in play.

The series still doesn’t explain how much actual authority the Jujutsu higher-ups possess. Are they powerful in a combat sense, or are they powerful because they control the system, resources, and politics of the Jujutsu world?

SEE ALSO: Top 10 Anime to look for in 2026: Must-watch series you won’t want to miss

The story hints that their influence comes from numbers and connections rather than strength, but Kenjaku has already destabilized that structure, making their leverage feel inconsistent.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

This is where the internal logic starts to break down for me. Yuji wasn’t executed right away because Gojo opposed it, and no one was able to overrule him. The moment Gojo was sealed, the execution order was immediately reinstated, which implies that raw power can override the Jujutsu higher-ups’ authority. But if that’s the case, the logic doesn’t fully add up.

With Gojo gone, Yuta is effectively the strongest active sorcerer, and he is also Gojo’s apprentice. If Yuta had openly opposed the ruling, it’s unclear who could have realistically stopped him. The series never fully addresses why Gojo’s authority was treated as absolute while Yuta’s strength seems to carry no comparable weight, creating a noticeable inconsistency in how power and control are portrayed.

SEE ALSO: Where to watch Jujutsu Kaisen — every platform streaming the hit title

Nonetheless, the Season 3 premiere succeeds at resetting the chessboard — but not necessarily at explaining why all the pieces still matter. It establishes where everyone stands going into the Culling Game, while exposing how much of the Jujutsu world still operates on assumed authority rather than clearly defined rules. Whether those gaps are intentional setups or unresolved weaknesses will be answered over the rest of the season.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 animation changes how fights are shown

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

The Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 animation makes an immediate stylistic statement, particularly during its early fight sequences. MAPPA continues to prioritize fluid motion and expressive action, but Season 3 leans more aggressively into a flatter visual approach during key moments—most notably through the use of kagenashi, an animation style that intentionally removes traditional shading to emphasize speed, form, and motion.

SEE ALSO: Jujutsu Kaisen watch order: Best way to watch all seasons and movies

This approach is especially effective in the clashes involving Yuji Itadori, Yuta Okkotsu, Naoya Zenin, and Choso. Without heavy shadows or depth cues, the animation draws attention to raw physicality: body positioning, sudden shifts in momentum, and the inhuman speed at which these characters move.

The result? Action that feels less staged and more volatile, reinforcing the idea that these confrontations are happening faster than the eye can comfortably track.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

Kagenashi has been a divisive stylistic choice among fans, with some viewing it as unfinished or visually sparse. However, in Season 3, it serves a clear purpose: by stripping away visual weight, the animation highlights how far removed these characters are from normal human limits, allowing impact and emotion to carry scenes rather than polish alone.

Paired with sharp camera movement and tightly framed choreography, Season 3’s animation reinforces the series’ shift in tone. These are not clean, heroic battles; they are chaotic, sudden, and often overwhelming.

Even within the relatively contained scope of the Yuji Itadori Execution arc, the animation makes it clear that Jujutsu Kaisen is preparing viewers for a far more relentless pace moving forward.

Is Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?

Satoru Gojo does appear in a flashback scene in the opening episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, but he does not play an active role in the next arc of the anime. Based on what’s shown so far, his involvement is limited to past events, and nothing suggests he will reenter the narrative as the Culling Game unfolds.

This also aligns with the announced Japanese voice cast, where Yuichi Nakamura, Gojo’s longtime voice actor, is not listed.

If you’re a big Gojo fan, it’s worth setting expectations early as Season 3 is shaping up to feature the fewest Gojo appearances in the series so far. That absence isn’t accidental. The Culling Game is built around a world where no single sorcerer can reset the balance, and Gojo’s continued removal forces the story to operate without its usual safety net. The result is a harsher, more unforgiving arc where every fight carries lasting consequences.

Credit: MAPPA, Toho Animation, Shueisha, Gege Akutami, Crunchyroll

Notable characters in Season 3

That vacuum is quickly filled by more abrasive and dangerous personalities, including Naoya Zenin, who is voiced by Koji Yusa. Yusa is well known for roles like Gin Ichimaru in Bleach, Ayumu Tojo in Gintama, and Jikka Yamada Asaemon in Hell’s Paradise.

Behind the scenes, MAPPA’s returning production team plays a key role in making this shift work. The Culling Game features plenty of spectacle, but its biggest moments are distributed across multiple colonies instead of building toward one central disaster.

With Jujutsu Kaisen’s blue-eyed king sidelined, the production leans on pacing, choreography, and character framing to maintain tension over time. The result is a season that feels intentionally unbalanced—by design—and far less forgiving than anything the series has done before.

Why the Culling Game is Jujutsu Kaisen’s most ambitious arc yet

As someone who has read the manga, I think it’s important to say this up front: the buildup to the Culling Game carries real weight, and once it properly begins, the story never really lets up.

Season 2 closed the book on several long-running arcs—most notably with the deaths of the special grade curses Hanami, Dagon, Jogo, and Mahito. With those central antagonists gone, Jujutsu Kaisen is no longer circling familiar threats. It’s clearing space for something much bigger.

SEE ALSO: Where to read Jujutsu Kaisen manga online — all official sources

That “something bigger” is the Culling Game, and it brings with it a massive influx of new characters. For some fans, that sudden shift can feel risky, or even alienating.

The Culling Game is the longest arc in the series at 63 chapters, and it introduces fighters at a rapid pace, many of whom arrive with little exposition or context. Combined with a world where the rule is essentially “fight first and ask questions later,” it’s easy to see how this could become overwhelming, especially for anime-only viewers.

Credit: MAPPA, Gege Akutami

But this is also where Jujutsu Kaisen tends to shine. One of the series’ strongest traits has always been its ability to introduce new characters quickly and drop them into large-scale set pieces that immediately test their limits.

We saw this play out during the Shibuya Incident, where heroes and villains collided under extreme pressure, forcing constant escalation and snap decisions. The Culling Game takes that same design philosophy and applies it on a much larger canvas.

SEE ALSO: Where to read Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: New sequel manga explained

The way I see it, the Culling Game is essentially a larger sample size of what made Shibuya work—more characters, more unpredictable matchups, and far higher stakes. It’s messier by design, and it’s not interested in easing the audience in.

This approach might leave you with more questions than answers at first, but if the series sticks to what it does best, those questions are exactly what keep the tension high and the momentum moving forward.

At its core, Jujutsu Kaisen has never been an easy series to follow. Its premise is layered with shifting rules, overlapping schemes, and long-running setups that can feel convoluted, especially as the story expands. However, what the series sometimes lacks in immediate clarity, it more than makes up for through its character work and escalation.

From distinctive character designs to carefully considered power scaling, the anime consistently frames its battles around believable strengths, limitations, and matchups. Combined with large-scale set pieces that reward attention and speculation, Jujutsu Kaisen remains one of the most compelling modern anime when it comes to sustained tension and payoff.
