Is Petit Planet gacha? This question has sparked discussion as HoYoverse, the developer behind gacha games like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, enters the cozy life-sim genre.

Because the studio is famous for its character banners and pull mechanics, fans are curious about how this new cosmic title handles its monetization.

In this article, we’ll dive into the mechanics of this video game to answer the question “Is Petit Planet gacha?” exploring its economy and explaining how the premium systems work.

What is Petit Planet?

Petit Planet is a free-to-play cosmic life simulation game from HoYoverse, marking the studio’s first move into the cozy gaming genre. Players, known as Planet Tenders, focus on nurturing their own small planet and connecting it with others to form a larger galaxy.

The gameplay revolves around a vitality called Luca, which shapes the environment as players build bonds with fuzzy companions known as Neighbors.

The daily loop consists of relaxing activities like planting exotic crops, fishing, mining, and cooking. Planet Tenders spend most of their time gathering resources and crafting items to help their planets flourish.

Customization is also a big part of the game, featuring different outfits and designs for both indoor and outdoor spaces using themed furniture.

The power of Luca also allows for transforming the sky and landscape of planets. Featuring a stylized, 3D cartoony art style, the game is confirmed for PC and mobile, with other platforms in development.

Understanding the economy: Curio Card and MiraiLoomi in Petit Planet

To understand how monetization works in Petit Planet, we first need to look at its primary currencies, MiraiLoomi and Curio Card.

Unlike the Dough earned through everyday activities like fishing or farming, these two are tied to the game’s premium shop systems.

MiraiLoomi in Petit Planet

MiraiLoomi in Petit Planet is a premium currency, easily recognizable as a red star-shaped icon with a paw print in the center.

For HoYoverse players, this is essentially the equivalent of Genshin Impact’s Primogems or Honkai Star Rail’s Stellar Jades.

It is typically obtained by completing daily tasks in the Loomix Footprint, progressing through the Curio Card, or via direct purchase. MiraiLoomi is primarily used to buy Curios, which are seasonal, curated sets of outfits, furniture, and other cosmetic items used to stylize your planet.

The Curio Card acts as Petit Planet’s version of a battle pass. Owning a Curio Card is essential for players who want to redeem the most exclusive seasonal items.

Once you’ve met specific discovery conditions through gameplay and exploration, you will be able to redeem your desired items at the Curio Emporium.

Keep in mind that while the Curio Card grants you access to Curio Emporium, you will still need a hefty amount of MiraiLoomi to redeem the Curios and add them to your collection.

Is Petit Planet gacha?

So, is Petit Planet gacha? The short answer is no.

In its Stardrift Beta testing, the game does not feature the traditional loot box or banner system, where players spend premium currency for a random chance at characters or weapons. Instead, the economy is built around direct purchases through the Curio Emporium and battle pass progression.

While the core monetization focuses on direct purchases, there is still a small gacha factor present in the gameplay. Players can find random items through drifting objects and shooting stars that land on their planets, which provide a sense of surprise without requiring a paid pull.

Perhaps the closest gacha element present in the game is found in the Loomix Mart. Here, players can purchase Loomix Curated Apparel Boxes for 2,500 Loomi.

Each box contains a pool of 16 different apparel items, ranging from premium pieces to basic gear. When you buy a box, you receive one randomized item from that set, which functions like a mystery box system.

Still, it is important to note that this apparel system isn’t really gacha in the traditional HoYoverse sense. Unlike the character banners or warps found in their other titles, these boxes are purely cosmetic and do not affect your gameplay power.

Since the game is still in development, it is possible that a traditional gacha system could be added in the future. HoYoverse could potentially implement randomized pulls for Neighbors, rare furniture sets, or exclusive outfits.

For now, from our Stardrift Beta experience, the game focuses on direct purchases—but fans should keep an eye out to see if a traditional gacha system is added when the game officially launches worldwide.
