League of Legends esports player and T1 mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has long been known as a bookworm, often seen reading self-improvement books — until fans discovered he has a soft spot for a certain manga series.
In a conversation with T1 streamer and his former teammate Park “Untara” Ui-jin, Faker shared his growing interest with Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga.
Warning: Major spoilers if you have yet to read the One Piece manga’s God Valley incident.
T1 Faker is all caught up on the latest One Piece manga chapters
Faker discussed parts of the God Valley incident with Untara, referencing Gol D. Roger and “the villain,” likely a nod to Imu. He described the chapters as “that story that gets you hyped” in Untara’s vlog, as translated to English by T1 fan Polar on TikTok.
This chapter of One Piece serves as a major flashback, filled with lore that provides important context for the series’ current events.

Faker’s remarks suggest he may have read over a thousand chapters of the manga.
“It’s fun,” he said. “Let’s watch One Piece.”
He also referred to the Enies Lobby arc as “the peak era” and noted that with the events in the latest chapters, “the second peak era has started.”
The two also chatted about other anime titles like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Demon Slayer.

One Piece is a long-running manga and anime series that follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of pirates as they search for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. It was created by Eiichiro Oda and began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 1997.
The manga has over 1,100 chapters and more than 100 volumes, making it one of the longest-running series in history.
One Piece holds multiple Guinness World Records, including the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author.
Just as many consider One Piece the greatest anime and manga of all time, Faker is widely regarded as the GOAT of esports.

Debuting in 2013, he has played as the mid-laner for T1 (formerly SK Telecom T1) throughout his entire career. His super fast reflexes and ability to make game-changing plays have earned him the nicknames “The Unkillable Demon King” and “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time).
Faker holds the record for the most League of Legends World Championship titles, having won the prestigious tournament six times in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Beyond the World Championship, he has claimed victories in numerous other major competitions. As part of the South Korean national team, he won a Gold Medal in the esports event at the 2022 Asian Games and a Silver Medal at the 2018 Asian Games.
He also led his team to victory in the Esports World Cup (EWC) in 2024 in Saudi Arabia.
