Figuring out the right Jujutsu Kaisen watch order can be tricky, especially in a story filled with time jumps, flashbacks, and characters whose pasts are just as important as their present.
Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen has earned its place as one of the most captivating modern shonen series, featuring a rich cast of sorcerers, curses, and intertwined histories.
The narrative shifts between different points in time, following Yuji Itadori’s present-day journey while exploring the origins of powerful figures like Gojo Satoru and Suguru Geto.
With so many overlapping arcs and timelines, we’ll help break down the best ways to watch Jujutsu Kaisen, whether you prefer to follow it chronologically or in release order.
Breaking down the Jujutsu Kaisen watch order, release dates, and timeline

Jujutsu Kaisen follows Yuji Itadori, an ordinary high school student whose life changes after he becomes the host of Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. From there, he’s thrust into the world of Jujutsu sorcery, where battles between humans and curses define the fragile balance of their world.
While Yuji’s story takes place in the present timeline, Jujutsu Kaisen also explores the pasts of several major characters. Gojo Satoru, Suguru Geto, and even Sukuna each have their own timelines that reveal how the world of Jujutsu came to be.
Gojo’s pupil, Yuta Okkotsu, and the Zenin family’s Maki also play key roles in this web of cursed users who are either striving to maintain peace or challenging the existing order of the Jujutsu world.

The anime’s storytelling doesn’t move in a straight line. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 first aired in Japan on October 3, 2020, and ran until March 27, 2021, introducing viewers to Yuji and his initiation into the world of sorcery. The 2021 film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, released on December 24, 2021, served as a prequel based on Gege Akutami’s original one-shot manga, showing events that take place before Yuji’s story begins.
JJK Season 2 premiered on July 6, 2023, and concluded on December 28, 2023, adapting both the Hidden Inventory and Shibuya Incident arcs, and diving even further back in time to Gojo and Geto’s student days.
In 2025, two compilation films were released in Japan. The first, Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death, premiered on May 30, 2025, and recapped the first part of Season 2, focusing on Gojo and Geto’s formative years.
Later that year, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution hit theaters on November 7, 2025. This film compiled the latter half of the Shibuya Incident arc and featured an early preview of Season 3, where Yuta sets out to hunt Yuji following the aftermath of Shibuya.

These time jumps give additional context to the story, but can also get confusing since they pinpoint pivotal moments for some characters that shape the ideologies they carry with them into the present timeline. Because of these shifts, there isn’t just one correct way to watch Jujutsu Kaisen. Some viewers prefer to follow the story chronologically to better understand the timeline, while others enjoy experiencing it in the order the anime was released, preserving the series’ intended pacing and reveals.
