Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 guide: Plot and production

Based on the manga series by Gege Akutami and produced by animation studio MAPPA, Jujutsu Kaisen returns for its third season at a turning point for its world and characters.
Season 3 picks up in the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident, an event that permanently altered the balance of power within jujutsu society. With Satoru Gojo (Yuichi Nakamura) sealed inside the Prison Realm, the world is forced to confront a reality without its strongest sorcerer.
This sudden vacuum creates instability, giving rise to new ambitions, rivalries, and long-buried agendas.
As the established order begins to fracture, more sorcerers see this moment as an opportunity to reshape the jujutsu world to their liking. At the center of it all is Kenjaku, whose long-term plan finally comes into motion through the Culling Game, a massive, rule-based conflict meant to “bring back the golden age of jujutsu.”
Rather than focusing on a single villain or threat, Season 3 explores what happens when power, ideology, and survival collide on a massive scale.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 episodes

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is set to adapt three major arcs from the manga: the Itadori Execution arc, the Perfect Preparation arc, and the Culling Game arc.

The season is planned as a two-cour release, allowing the story to unfold over a longer period rather than being condensed into a single run.
The first episode aired on January 8, 2026, marking the beginning of Part 1. This structure gives the series more room to explore multiple storylines, introduce new characters, and develop long-form conflicts without rushing major moments.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 characters and their relationships

Season 3 shifts its focus toward the different clans, factions, and alliances that shape the jujutsu world.
After the Shibuya Incident, the existing power structure begins to break down, creating tension between the major families, independent sorcerers, and those operating outside the traditional system. Rather than centering on a single group, the story shows how these sides clash and overlap within the Culling Game.
The major jujutsu clans, including the Zenin family, remain key players, while unaffiliated sorcerers and reincarnated participants form temporary alliances based on shared goals or survival.
This makes Season 3 less about individual rivalries and more about how these groups compete for influence in a changing world.
