Jujutsu Kaisen has become one of the defining shonen series of its generation, mixing high-stakes battles with sharp storytelling and unforgettable characters.
With new viewers jumping in and long-time fans following every update, it’s no surprise that many are wondering, “Is Jujutsu Kaisen finished?”
Depending on how you’re experiencing the series, anime, manga, or even the movie, the timeline can feel a little tricky to piece together.
And with conversations surrounding sequels and ongoing adaptations, it’s understandable why the status of the story isn’t always clear at first glance. Here’s a closer look at how the series fits together across its different releases.
What is Jujutsu Kaisen?

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series created by Gege Akutami, known for its blend of dark fantasy, supernatural battles, and character-driven storytelling.
It follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who becomes involved in the world of sorcery after consuming a cursed object tied to the legendary Curse, Ryomen Sukuna.
The series explores the conflict between jujutsu sorcerers and malevolent Cursed Spirits born of negative human emotions, weaving action-packed arcs that explore themes of morality, sacrifice, and human nature.
Jujutsu Kaisen began with a smaller prototype series before evolving into the long-running manga fans know today. The story’s origins trace back to Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, a four-chapter short series by Gege Akutami, published in Jump GIGA from April 28 to July 28, 2017.
The prequel introduced the foundation of the Jujutsu world, including characters like Yuta Okkotsu and Satoru Gojo, and its positive reception led Shueisha to greenlight a full serialization.
Is Jujutsu Kaisen finished?

The main Jujutsu Kaisen manga officially released in Weekly Shonen Jump on March 5, 2018, marking the beginning of Yuji Itadori’s story and the central conflict surrounding Ryomen Sukuna.
Over the next several years, Akutami expanded the narrative into large-scale arcs involving sorcery institutions, escalating curses, and complex character dynamics.
After a six-year run, the manga concluded with Chapter 271, published on September 30, 2024. Including the four prequel chapters, later repackaged as Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the complete story across both works consists of 275 chapters.
What is the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel?

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a new canon spin-off that takes place after the main series, written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki.
It began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 8, 2025, marking the first major continuation of the franchise after the main manga concluded.
Set in the year 2086, the story centers on Tsurugi Okkotsu and Yuka Okkotsu, the descendants of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. The siblings navigate a future where jujutsu sorcery has evolved and new extra terrestrial threats, including a mysterious extraterrestrial force, have reshaped the world.
While the exact length of the series has not been officially confirmed, current publication patterns suggest that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is expected to continue releasing new chapters into early 2026, with many anticipating the run to extend until around February 2026.
This allows the series to serve as a compact follow-up that expands the universe without committing to another long-term serialization.
How many seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen are there?

As of now, Jujutsu Kaisen has two released seasons, one theatrical prequel film, and a third season scheduled for release. The anime adaptation is produced by MAPPA, which has continued to adapt the manga’s major arcs in chronological order.
Season 1 premiered on October 3, 2020, running for 24 episodes. It introduced Yuji Itadori, the structure of Jujutsu High, and the early conflicts involving Cursed Spirits and sorcerers. The season also covered the Kyoto Goodwill Event arc, solidifying the anime’s popularity worldwide.

This was followed by the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, released on December 24, 2021. Based on the original prequel manga, the movie focuses on Yuta Okkotsu’s story one year before the main events of the anime. Its critical and commercial success further expanded the franchise’s reach.
Season 2 aired from July 6 to December 28, 2023, with 23 episodes adapting two major arcs: Gojo’s Past and the Shibuya Incident. Both arcs are central to the overarching conflict of the series and marked a significant tonal and narrative shift for the story.
At the time of writing, the upcoming season 3 premieres on January 8, 2026, and will adapt the Culling Game arc. This marks the next major phase of the anime and continues directly from where Season 2 concluded.
