In Graveyard Keeper 2, the game doesn’t hold your hand, telling you where to get things. You’ll constantly find yourself struggling to look for new Graveyard Keeper 2 resources whenever you get stuck in the story.
Luckily, most resources only have one or two key locations where you can get them.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on where to find all the basic resources you need to start progressing more in the story and start building your dream graveyard.
Graveyard Keeper 2 resource guide: Where to get stone and stone mining location
Stones are by far the easiest Graveyard Keeper 2 resource to get.
You can see some of the rocks and boulders around the inquisitor base, but they don’t respawn. When you run out, which you will, there’s a mining spot with unlimited stone to the south of the inquisitor base.
Go down directly from your yard (not the garden area) until you reach the quarry. There’s a massive boulder with some wooden reinforcements around it. Run to the side and start mining it with your pickaxe to get stones. It’ll never run out.
After unlocking most of the mid-tier tech tree upgrades, you’ll start using more stones for more complex crafting recipes – with some being consistently needed to complete work orders.
Where to dig clay and find clay pits
There’s also an unlimited clay node in the inquisitor’s base. From the yard, move southeast past the small ruins. There’s a sinkhole of clay right in the middle before reaching the cliffside.
Clay isn’t as important early on as other resources, but after unlocking the laboratory by finishing the first few quests from the plague doctor, clay will be needed to process all that fat you have been collecting as a mortician.
How to get leaves, the hardest Graveyard Keeper 2 resource
Finding leaves early is quite annoying, and probably the most baffling mechanic in the game.
You come across an upgrade in the farming tech tree that unlocks peat, trying to find ways to get it or use the compost pile, but have no idea where to get these leaves to actually craft the peat – or any other recipes that need leaves in the future, for that matter.
You’ll find interactable bushes to forage, but it only gives you sticks, which is the baffling part.
To actually get leaves, you must harvest crops, which means you also need to start building your garden first. Go to your garden and start building garden beds.
Then, go to Herm located at the center of the village and trade for seeds. If your farming skill isn’t high enough, just buy the cheaper seeds so they’re easier to maintain.
Lastly, plant these seeds on the garden bed and wait for them to grow. Harvest the crops to get the leaves as a byproduct.
How to mine sand: Exact location
Head west from the inquisitor’s base until you reach the river. Follow the stream until you reach the waterfall.
There’s a tiny sand pile next to the river. Use the pickaxe to mine sand, and yes, this sand node is also unlimited.
Getting iron in Graveyard Keeper 2 requires you to clear quests
Before even finding iron, you’ll have to finish a few questlines first and repair the broken bridge located to the west of the garden.
Finish Jack’s whole questline until Docked and Found to get a tip from the guard telling you the iron is in the forest west of the village.
If you already have recipes that need iron but haven’t progressed this far, you probably unlocked those metallurgy upgrades from the tech tree too fast – since the game isn’t as linear as players want them to be.
If you meet all the requirements, go past the fixed bridge until you reach the vineyard. Head south and you’ll find three iron ores ready to be mined. Unfortunately, these iron ore nodes don’t respawn. You’ll have to work with these number of iron ores for now.
Your next chance at getting iron is by buying them from the new trader by the pier, after clearing the zombies east of the village.
Clearing the town unlocks the path to the port area and the main pier. You’ll meet several new NPCs and receive new quests. Finish the quest from the main pier trader by crafting lenses.
How do you do that? By researching and crafting the bellows extension for the furnace. From there you can start crafting lenses using sand and fuel.
Give three lenses to the pier trader and unlock his shop. He sells iron at one silver per piece and gets more expensive as you buy more in bulk. These are egregious prices, considering how hard it is to make money in the game, but you’ll have to make it work.
How to get water in Inquisitor’s Base, the easiest Graveyard Keeper 2 resource
The main way to get water is to find the well in the Inquisitor’s Base. The well is just south of the garden, and it is automatically built. It is easy to overlook because of all the trees around, and the game doesn’t really teach you where to get it.
You don’t need any tools to work the well. Just go to the well and interact with it. Each interaction will get you 10x Water, but it will drain your stamina each time. The water is literally an item that appears in your inventory, so you don’t have to store it in any container. It acts as a separate item.
Since it acts as a separate item, which is weird for a liquid, you can also store water in chests and other types of storage containers.
As a tip, when you progress further into the story and unlock more exciting things, keep water in:
- your garden area
- inside your home, and
- the laboratory.
Crafting items in workbenches and other buildings will take into account stored items in your storage containers. However, it cannot grab anything from another area.
For example, if you have your stones stored in the garden area and you are trying to craft something that needs stone using the Stonemason’s Workbench that is placed outside your home, you can’t access those stones unless you transfer them or they are in your inventory.
Because of this mechanic, you want to craft chests in all areas and always have stock of the most useful resources. The garden (farming), home (cooking), and laboratory (alchemy and more) in particular, use up the most water.
When you progress a little more, you can upgrade the Garden Well from the blueprint table, as long as you have unlocked the Garden Improvement I in the tech tree. This doubles the water per interaction, giving you 20x each. It saves a lot of stamina or energy for your daily routine.
