Official manga service Manga Plus by Shueisha is celebrating its expanding global audience with a massive campaign: the launch of “First Read Free” in Indonesian.
Starting August 4, 2025 fans in Indonesia can access thousands of manga chapters for free, exclusively through the Manga Plus app.
This exciting initiative makes all chapters of currently serialized works available to read once for free. This means you can dive into over 2000 chapters across 10 ongoing series—including international hits like One Piece, Dandadan, and Spy x Family—any time you want, all translated into Indonesian.

Whether you’re catching up on a long-running favorite or starting a brand-new series, now is the perfect opportunity to jump in without paying a cent.

To start reading, just make sure you download or update to the latest version of the Manga Plus app for iOS or Android. Each chapter can be read once for free, and access to that free read ends when you close the app’s viewer. This campaign is part of Manga Plus’s ongoing mission to make official, high-quality manga more accessible to readers globally.
“In 2023, we first released the First Read Free campaign in English, which has been a huge success. We wanted to expand the campaign to help give new readers the chance to jump into series they’ve been curious about but couldn’t fully enjoy because they missed some chapters,” wrote Editor-in-Chief
Shuhei Hosono.
“Now, you can catch up from the beginning right up to the newest chapters, and continue following on with the latest updates as they come out each week. For long-time fans, I hope you’ll take this opportunity to revisit your favorites and rediscover moments or characters you may have forgotten.”
“So whether you’re new to manga or a long-time fan, I hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity and read these amazing stories! We will strive to bring more titles and more languages to Manga Plus, so I hope you’ll join our journey,” Hosono added.

This First Read Free campaign marks a significant investment in the Indonesian market, highlighting the growing importance of Southeast Asia to global manga distribution. By providing free access to an extensive back catalog of popular series, Shueisha is not only rewarding existing fans but also lowering the barrier to entry for new readers who may be hesitant to commit to a paid subscription or physical volumes.
This move directly combats piracy by offering a high-quality, official alternative, solidifying Manga Plus’s commitment to making the works of their acclaimed artists accessible and legal worldwide. For Indonesian readers, this means unprecedented, immediate access to a core library of manga hits in their native language.
Manga Plus is the official global online manga platform and smartphone app created by the Japanese publisher Shueisha, home to the world-famous Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Launched in 2019, its primary mission is to offer legal, high-quality manga translations to fans worldwide, simultaneously releasing the latest chapters of popular titles like One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Spy x Family at the same time they debut in Japan.
The service operates internationally (excluding Japan, China, and South Korea, which have their own services) and provides a significant portion of its content for free—typically the first three and the three most recent chapters—while offering subscription plans (Manga Plus Mas) for unlimited reading of both current and completed classics in various languages, including the newly expanded support for Indonesian.
