If you’ve been wandering the Jianghu looking for a new challenge, your wait is over.

The first major expansion for Where Winds Meet, titled the Hexi expansion, is officially launching, and it’s a lot bigger than a simple patch update.

This update is a massive, free content drop rolling out in chapters, starting with Chapter 1: Jade Gate Pass.

The Hexi expansion is a dream sequence that throws you back into the glory days of the Tang Dynasty. It’s split into three chapters rolling out through May (Jade Gate Pass, Liangzhou, and Qinchuan), and together they add three major maps and nearly 20 sub-regions.

This update completely changes how you move. The new Sand Chaser trick lets you surf across the dunes, which is as fun as it sounds.

The developers are also adding a pretty wild time-manipulation mechanic called Cosmic Reversal that lets you rewind time to rebuild ruins, uncover secrets, or solve puzzles.

Combat remains a central focus with the introduction of new enemies. In the abandoned White-Crown City, players face the campaign boss Guo Xin, who guards the desolate frontier. A massive roaming world boss known as The Wandering Ark challenge players to explore sandstorms and target shifting weak points on a colossal moving vessel.

These encounters require a mix of ranged and close-quarters tactics to survive the harsh environment of the Hexi corridor.

The Hexi expansion debuts the Bamboocut Dust path, featuring two new martial art styles.

The first, Spring Dreamscape, uses an Umbrella for high-agility combos in tight spaces, while the second, Fleeting Clouds, introduces a Rope Dart style focused on wide-reaching area-of-effect attacks.

Where Winds Meet is an open-world action-adventure RPG from Everstone Studio, a Hangzhou-based internal studio at NetEase.

Launched globally in late 2025, the game transports players to the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, a chapter in 10th-century Chinese history.

Players step into the role of a young sword master, exploring a world filled with martial arts sects, ancient conspiracies, and the freedom to traverse landscapes by foot, horse, or even by gliding through the air.
