Hexi expansion Chapter 2 is the next major update coming to Where Winds Meet. It expands the open-world Wuxia ARPG with a new region, storyline arcs, weapons, and powerful enemies.
“Liangzhou,” the second chapter of the massive Hexi expansion, will soon open its snowy frontier to players.
The update continues the journey beyond the deserts of Jade Gate Pass and introduces a dramatically different landscape filled with fortified towns, towering mountains, and fresh challenges.
As the second act of the three-chapter Hexi expansion, Liangzhou pushes the overarching narrative forward while offering players a brand-new frontier experience within the Jianghu.
Hexi expansion Chapter 2 release date
Hexi expansion Chapter 2: Liangzhou launches Thursday, April 2, 2026.
The update follows players’ journey through the dangerous sands of Jade Gate Pass in Chapter 1.
Within Liangzhou, the adventure moves into colder and more fortified territory, expanding both the world map and the central storyline.
Alongside the new setting, players can expect additional narrative content, a brand-new sect, a highly anticipated weapon, and several new boss encounters.
A new frontier region: Liangzhou
Unlocked after the events of Jade Gate Pass, Liangzhou introduces a stark contrast to the previous desert landscapes. Instead of endless sand dunes, players will now traverse snow-covered mountains and heavily fortified frontier cities.
The region’s artistic design draws inspiration from classical Eastern poetry—particularly the imagery of “grape wine in a night-glowing cup.” This blend of romantic visual motifs and the harsh reality of a military frontier gives Liangzhou a distinctive atmosphere.
As the story progresses, a pivotal narrative moment will trigger a mysterious new phase across the region, dramatically altering the environment and gameplay. This transformation promises an entirely new exploration and combat experience within the Jianghu.
New storylines: Liangzhou Melody and Paper Moon
Two parallel narrative arcs unfold as part of the expansion.
“Liangzhou Melody” follows a young musician searching for the hometown he has never known, setting players on a journey shaped by memory, identity, and discovery.
Meanwhile, “Paper Moon” explores a conflict within a Buddhist hall. The story reveals how this struggle reshapes the fates of two individuals living through turbulent times.
Despite their different paths, both stories are tied together by a shared longing for Chang’an’s moonlight, which serves as a symbolic beacon in an era of uncertainty.
New Sect: Raging Tides
The Raging Tides sect makes its debut in this expansion.
Forged from the discipline of military life, the sect is defined by iron-willed resolve on the battlefield, where comrades share both life and death in combat. Their training emphasizes coordination, loyalty, and unwavering determination during war.
Interestingly, this strict martial discipline contrasts sharply with their lifestyle outside battle. During cultivation and daily life, members of Raging Tides are known for their free-spirited personalities and fondness for wine, creating a unique dual identity within the Jianghu.
New weapon: Heng Blade
One of the most anticipated additions in Hexi expansion Chapter 2 is the Heng Blade.
Inspired by Tang Dynasty craftsmanship, the weapon features a straight-angled tip and sleek, precise lines that reflect the elegance of traditional cold weapons.
Combat animations for the Heng Blade were designed by Stephen Tung Wai, a seven-time Hong Kong Film Award winner for Best Action Choreography known for work on films such as Hard Boiled, Hero, and Reign of Assassins.
In gameplay, the weapon introduces a “deflect-and-counter” combat mechanic, allowing players to turn enemy attacks into opportunities for swift retaliation. The Heng Blade also forms the “Stonesplit Strength” martial arts path, complementing the heavy-hitting Mo Blade.
New campaigns and world bosses
The Liangzhou frontier brings a series of new challenges across its snow-covered wilderness.
Players can investigate complex traps and hidden clues in the “Death of Governor” campaign, which pushes them to uncover the truth behind a mysterious incident.
Another major confrontation takes place at Dasan Pass, where adventurers must face the colossal guardian beast known as Town Gate Roar during an intense siege scenario.
The region will also feature several unique world bosses, including:
- Moongazing Maiden, a graceful yet tragic foe
- Everdeer, a fiercely auspicious beast
- Pocketrupt Circus, a bizarre and unpredictable enemy encounter
These encounters ensure that exploration across Liangzhou remains unpredictable and full of danger.
