Puyo Tetris Doubles has officially expanded with local wireless and online multiplayer in the latest update for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S on Nintendo Switch 2.
The update enhances the crossover puzzle game by letting players enjoy the brand-new two-on-two mode with friends both nearby and online, SEGA announced.

For fans of the series, this update makes the already chaotic puzzle mashup even better by turning teamwork into the key to victory.
A brand-new co-op mode: Puyo Tetris Doubles
The biggest highlight of the update is Puyo Tetris Doubles, a completely new two-versus-two multiplayer mode.

Unlike traditional puzzle battles where each player controls their own board, this mode has two teammates sharing a single field.
Both players work together to place incoming Puyos and Tetriminos while coordinating chains, combos, and strategies.

Three rulesets are available in this mode:
- Versus – Classic competitive puzzle battles with two teams facing off.
- Fusion – A hybrid ruleset that mixes Puyo and Tetris mechanics together.
- Party – A more chaotic mode designed for fun and unpredictable moments.
The shared board makes communication essential. Pulling off massive chains or perfectly timed Tetris clears with a teammate creates the kind of satisfying moments that puzzle fans love.
New online and local wireless multiplayer feature

The latest update now allows Puyo Tetris Doubles to be played online and through local wireless multiplayer.
That means teams can compete with friends in the same room or match up against players anywhere.
CameraPlay brings players into the match
Nintendo Switch 2 players can also experiment with CameraPlay, a feature that integrates a USB camera into gameplay.

With a camera connected, players can use their own image as:
- The background of their puzzle board
- Player icons
- Part of Garbage Puyo attack animations
It adds a playful layer to matches, especially when playing with family or friends and reacting to dramatic puzzle moments.
Mouse controls with Joy-Con 2

The update also takes advantage of mouse-style controls with the Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Players can:
- Drag and drop Puyos and Tetriminos directly onto the board
- Use a cursor to help guide teammates
- Point out optimal placements during cooperative matches
For newcomers, it’s also a helpful tool for learning how chains and placements work.
GameShare lets friends play with one copy

Another standout feature is GameShare, which allows players to share the game with others who do not own it.
With this feature:
- Only one copy of the game is required
- Friends can join matches locally or online
- Players can chat with teammates using GameChat during matches
It makes organizing puzzle battles much easier and lowers the barrier for friends to jump into the action.

About Tetris
Tetris was created in 1984 by computer programmer Alexey Pajitnov. The deceptively simple puzzle game challenges players to arrange falling shapes known as Tetriminos to complete horizontal lines.
The game’s global rise accelerated in 1988 when Henk Rogers discovered it at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show. He later negotiated the rights that allowed Nintendo to publish Tetris on the Game Boy in 1989, helping turn the handheld console into a massive success.
More than four decades later, Tetris remains one of the most recognized puzzle games in the world. Over 520 million units have been sold, with billions of matches played online every year across many platforms.
