The creator of Boys Over Flowers, Yoko Kamio, is teaming up with streaming giant Netflix to release the Love Through a Prism anime.
Yoko is behind the original work and character concepts for the series, marking her return to a major production following her work on the Boys Over Flowers Season 2 manga in 2019. This new anime ends a six-year hiatus for the celebrated manga artist.
Love Through a Prism is animated by WIT Studio, the driving force behind popular series Spy x Family, Attack on Titan, and Vinland Saga. It is directed by Kazuto Nakazawa, whose credits include the anime sequence in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Volume 1.
What is the Love Through a Prism anime about?
Love Through a Prism is set in early 1900s London and follows Lili Ichijoin, a Japanese exchange student pursuing her dream of becoming a painter. After enrolling at an art school, Lili meets Kit Church, a talented but detached painter.
The series centers on their life at the academy and their relationship, which revolves around their shared passion for art.
“This is the story of Lili, who blazes through her time with love, courage and romance,” Yoko said in a press release. “In our society where it is becoming difficult to talk about hopes and dreams, and where common things we take for granted are fading away, I hope this series can be a light for those who watch it.”
Love Through a Prism premieres on Netflix on January 15, 2026, and is scheduled to run for 20 episodes.

Yoko, the creator of the series, is best known for creating Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango), the best-selling shojo manga of all time. Through her work, she defined the hugely popular “poor girl meets rich boys” romance trope.
Boys Over Flowers won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996. It inspired numerous successful live-action adaptations across Asia, including hit TV series in Taiwan (Meteor Garden), Japan (Hana Yori Dango), and South Korea (Boys Over Flowers).
The series follows the story of Tsukushi Makino, a determined, working-class girl who enrolls at the elite Eitoku Academy, a high school for Japan’s wealthiest families. She immediately clashes with the F4 (Flower Four), a quartet of handsome, immensely rich, and arrogant students who rule the school through bullying.
