Why play Final Fantasy VII remake

First released in 1997 on the PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022. Widely regarded as a landmark RPG, the original game earned acclaim for its epic storyline, memorable characters, and cinematic sequences that pushed the boundaries of technology at the time.

Centered on the iconic hero, Cloud Strife, and his battle against the antagonist Sephiroth, the game has sold over 15.3 million copies worldwide and remains beloved by critics and fans alike. Its success has also spawned spin-offs, films, and a wide array of merchandise.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake project, led by a mix of original and new developers, reimagines the story across three standalone games. The first installment, Final Fantasy VII Remake, is available on PC and PlayStation 5, and will launch on January 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox PC platforms.

The second game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, has received widespread acclaim, earning over 125 perfect scores from media outlets and 40 Game of the Year awards. It is currently available for PC and PlayStation 5, continuing the saga of Cloud Strife in this reimagined universe.
